4 teachers get show cause notice for skipping duty
District primary education officer (DPEO) in Habiganj on Sunday served show cause notices to four teachers of Boiragi Punjee Government Primary School in Chunarughat upazila for not attending the institution most of the days.
The teachers, who were asked to show cause, are Head Teacher Amina Khatun and Assistant Teachers Sima Debi, Syeda Hena and Azad Hasan Chowdhury.
Confirming the matter, Habiganj DPEO Mohammad Abdur Razzak said the four teachers were asked to submit their reply within the next seven days, otherwise, divisional action will be taken against them.
During a visit to the school in Satuajuri union in the upazila this correspondent found the school closed.
Local people alleged that the teachers appointed an imam of a local mosque to arrange classes at his home for the children enrolled with the institution and pay him an amount on monthly basis.
School Managing Committee Vice President Albert Chicham, 52, said the one-storey school building was set up in 1973, adding that currently 17 students are studying in six classes, including pre-primary section, and all are being deprived of proper education due to their teachers' negligence.
“Since my childhood I have been seeing classes are not being held regularly and the school opens only one or two days in a month for administrative work only,” Albert said.
A former assistant teacher of the institution, seeking anonymity, said although many children live in the nearby areas, the head teacher never took initiatives to find more students for the school.
Class V student Juli Buam said she had not being attending her school for long, instead attends her classes at imam sir's house.
Juli's friend Eva said she spends more time in playing as she does not need to attend her school.
A guardian Chen Buam, 45, said due to lack of government supervision teachers' negligence is increasing day by day.
Head teacher Amina Khatun, who joined the school in 2014, said two teachers of her school are on deputation in other schools while another can't attend regularly as the school is in a remote area.
“I only miss the school whenever I need to go to upazila headquarters or the district town for official purposes,” she said.
Assistant teacher Sima Debi said it is not possible for a woman to attend the school everyday as it is in a remote hill area.
