25 buses fined for charging extra fare

Twenty-five buses on Dhaka-Aricha route were fined today for charging extra fare from the passengers returning to the capital after celebrating Eid-ul-Azha.

On information that some privately-owned buses are charging extra fare due to a huge pressure of the returnees at the end of Eid vacation, Firoz Mahmud, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Shibalaya led a mobile court to conduct a drive there, our Manikganj correspondent reports.

The mobile court fined the 25 bus owners Tk 44,000 in total, UNO Firoz said.

Apart from this, Mirajul Islam, 25, driver of Nirapad Paribahan, was jailed for seven days for not having his driving licence, the UNO said adding Mirajul was also fined for charging extra fare.
