21 BNP, Jamaat men sent to jail
A Bagerhat court yesterday sent 21 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami to jail in two separate sabotage cases filed in 2017 and 2018.
Jamaat leader Kohinoor Sardar, vice chairman of Mongla Upazila Parishad, is also among the 21 jailed.
Judge Golak Chandra Biswas of Bagerhat District and Sessions Judge's Court sent the accused to jail after hearing a bail petition filed by them around noon, said Kazi Daud Hossain, the court inspector.
The other accused include Jamaat leader Mohammad Hossain, councillor of ward 6 in Mongla port municipality; Jamaat leader Mohammad Yunus Ali, councillor of ward 3 in the same municipality; Jamaat leaders Babar Mussalli and Zahid Molla; Mahbubur Rahman Manik, organising secretary of BNP's Mongla municipality unit; Jubo Dal leader Abu Hossain Pani; Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Abul Kashem; and BNP leaders Golam Hossain, Faruk and Ruhul.
Court Inspector Kazi Daud said the two separate sabotage cases were filed against the accused with Mongla Police Station in 2017 and 2018.
In one case, 15 people including BNP leader Mahbubur Rahman Manik were accused, while in the second case, six people including Jamaat leader Kohinoor Sardar were accused, he added.
