13 get life term for killing two
A Faridpur court yesterday sentenced 13 people to life imprisonment in a case filed for killing two men in Saltha upazila in 2003.
Judge Mohammad Motiar Rahman of Faridpur Special Judge’s Court delivered the verdict for killing Gongor Kha and Mosha Mollah over land dispute in Chandpur village of the upazila on December 23 that year.
The convicts are Mannan Kha, 47, Surman Kha, 55, Mazed Kha, 48, Wazed Kha, 42, Rashed Kha, 40, Sohorab Fakir, 42, Afsar Fakir, 45, Fazlu Fakir, 46, Rahman Kha, 43, Rezaul Kha, 45, Jigir Kha, 48, Osman Fakir, 49, and Siddiq Fakir, 45, of the same village, said Golam Rabanni Babu Mridha, public prosecutor (PP).
Each convict was also fined Tk 50,000 -- in default of which, each will have to serve an additional six months in jail, the PP said, adding that Sohorab and Jigir were tried in absentia, while two other accused died during trial.
Twelve out of 27 accused in the charge sheet were acquitted as their charges were not proven during trial, he also said.
