10-yr-old madrasa girl ‘raped’ in Bagerhat, 1 held
Police today arrested a youth on charge of raping a second-grader madrasa girl in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat.
Ferdaus Sheikh, 18, a local grocer, was arrested in this connection this afternoon, our local correspondent reports.
According to what could be known from local sources, the madrasa authorities reportedly tried to cover up the incident.
Mahfuz Altaf, additional superintendent of Bagerhat police, said Sheikh lured the girl to a house and violated her on April 11.
“We have arrested the youth upon receiving a complaint from the victim’s family,” he said. The victim’s medical test will be conducted tomorrow.
Madrasa managing committee Chairman Gazi Borhan Uddin denied complaints of efforts to cover up the incident.
“We were waiting to know who was involved with the crime,” he told The Daily Star.
