Lipu murder: Roommate on 4-day remand
The roommate of Rajshahi University student Motaleb Hossain Lipu, whose body was found outside his dormitory on October 20, was placed on a four-day remand today.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Mokseda Asgar passed the order after police produced Monirul Islam, a second year student of RU botany department, before the court with a seven day remand prayer, said Ashok Kumar Chowhan, an inspector of Motihar Police Station and also investigation officer in the case.
Police suspect Monirul’s involvement in the murder as his alibi did not match with the primary evidence, the police official told the court after submitting the remand prayer.
Earlier on October 20, police detained Monirul, who shared room No. 253 of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall with Lipu, who was a second-year student majoring in mass communication and journalism at RU.
On the same day, Bashir Mollah, an uncle of Lipu, filed a murder case with Motihar Police Station against unknown people.
