Police arrested a youth last night from Shahjahanpur in Dhaka for allegedly slaying his sister and a woman on Tuesday.
Sayeed Hawlader, 18, killed his sister Kalpana Akter, 12, soon after she witnessed him killing her employer Raushan Ara, 65, in Kolar Arat Road area in Uttar Jatrabari on Tuesday afternoon, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the Detective Branch of police.
Jatrabari police detained Sayeed from a CNG station in Shahjahanpur and seized a mobile phone set and Tk 1,400 from his possession, said the police at a press conference in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media office this afternoon
The double murder
Kalpana and her mother, Lucky Akhter, used to work as housemaids at Raushan Ara’s second-floor flat. Raushan Ara was the wife of former additional police superintendent Abdul Kuddus, the DB official said.
Sayeed went to the flat in Kolar Arat Road area on Tuesday along with his friend, one Riaz, and demanded Tk 10,000 from Raushan.
Sayeed and Riaz slaughtered her after an altercation that ensued when she denied giving them money, reports the police quoting Sayeed’s confession statement, after primary interrogation.
He also killed her sister when she witnessed the murder of Raushan, police claimed.
