Drug peddler kills youth
A youth, injured in an attack allegedly by a local drug peddler in Kalihati upazila on Monday, died at a hospital in Dhaka's Savar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased, Abdur Rashid Thandu, 30, was son of late Abdus Sattar of Betdoba village.
Following a case filed by deceased's mother Rasheda Begum the same night, police arrested Md Khalil alias Langra Khalil, 35, from Amritola village in Madhupur upazila early yesterday, Officer-in-Charge Mosharaf Hossain of Kalihati Police Station said.
According to the case statement, Khalil, a tenant of Thandu, had been running illegal drug trading in the area for long.
At one stage of altercation over the issue, Khalil beat up Thandu mercilessly when Khalil asked him to leave the house on Monday, leaving him seriously injured.
Injured Thandu was first taken to Tangail General Hospital and later shifted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar the same night, where he succumbed to his injuries early yesterday.
