Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF in Joypurhat

A Bangladeshi national was killed and four others suffered bullet wounds as members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on them at bordering Paschim Ram Krishnapur village in Joypurhat Sadar upazila today.

The deceased was identified as Sayem, a resident of the village.

Tozammel Haque, chairman of Dholahar union parishad, said the BSF members chased two children while they were catching fish in a pond near 276/7 border pillar at the village.

As the villagers protested the incident, the BSF members entered the village around 12:30pm and opened fire on them that left five people, including Sayem, injured.

The injured were rushed to Joypurhat Adhunik Hospital from where Sayem was shifted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 4:30pm.

Lt Colonel Abdur Razzak Tarafdar, commanding officer of BGB battalion-3, confirmed the incident.
