Addict jailed for torturing parents
A mobile court sentenced a drug addict to eight months' imprisonment for confining his parents to their home to realise drug money in Birampur upazila yesterday.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Touhidur Rahman led the court.
The convict, Al Amin, 25, son of Arshad Ali of Purbopara village, used to torture his parents for money to buy drugs, police said.
On Wednesday morning, he beat up his parents as they refused to give him money. Later, he confined them to a room. As his parents refused to pay money till night, he did not free them.
Informed by locals, police rescued the victims, arrested Amin and produced him before the court that punished him, said Abdus Sabur, OC of Birampur Police Station.
