Cop shot dead in Tangail
An assistant sub-inspector of police has been shot dead by an alleged criminal in Tangail district town.
Police said Nurul Islam, 32, sustained bullet wounds last night when they conducted the house of Ulka, chief of Ulka Bahini, to recover firearms, reports our Tangail correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Tangail Model Police Station raided the house at Purbo Adalat Para around 11:30pm, said Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station.
“Sensing presence of the police team, Ulka fired bullets on them, leaving ASI Nurul bullet-hit. He received two bullets -- one in his chest and another in the right hand," the OC said, adding that Ulka, however, fled the scene.
He was whisked off to Tangail Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police sources said.
Nurul succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 11:30am.
