SCBA polls end

The two-day voting for electing the new leadership of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) ended today.

Out of total 7,825 voters, some 6,135 lawyers casted their ballots at the SCBA auditorium in Dhaka.

The result is likely to be announced today, SCBA Superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das told The Daily Star.

SCBA sources said the main contest would take place between the panel of the ruling Awami League-backed Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel.

Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad has nominated Advocate AM Aminuddin and Advocate Md Abdun Nur Dulal as candidates for the posts of president and secretary. Aminuddin was a former secretary of SCBA.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel has nominated Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, a former SCBA president, and its incumbent secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon as candidates for the posts of president and secretary.
