Zayan laid to rest
Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim’s grandson Zayan Chowdhury, who was killed in the series blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, was laid to rest in Dhaka yesterday.
A heart-wrenching scene occurred at Banani graveyard at the time of Zayan’s burial.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Banani Chairmanbari field after Asr prayers, Md Imrul, personal secretary of Sheikh Selim, told The Daily Star.
Zayan’s grandfather and other AL leaders were present at the janaza, he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited her paternal cousin Sheikh Selim’s residence in Banani to console the family members.
She went there around 2:45pm and stayed for over an hour.
The body of eight-year-old Zayan Chowdhury was brought to Dhaka from Sri Lanka in the afternoon. Zayan was killed in the series blasts targeting churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. Over 300 people were killed and countless others were injured in the tragedy.
A second grader of Uttara School, Zayan is the son of Moshiul Haque Chowdhary and Sheikh Sonia.
Moshiul and his wife went to Sri Lanka on holiday with two of their children. Moshiul and Zayan were at a restaurant when a bomb exploded there.
