‘We’ve ensured safe journey on river routes during Eid’
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud yesterday expressed his satisfaction over smooth journey of holidaymakers on the river routes across the country during Eid-ul-Fitr, as the government took all necessary measures to this end.
“With the combined efforts of all authorities concerned, we have ensured safe and accident-free journey for holidaymakers on the river routes during Eid and we are satisfied so far,” Khalid Mahmud said.
He came up with the remarks while exchanging greetings with officials and journalists after Eid vacation at the ministry’s conference room at Secretariat.
The state minister thanked the local administration, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) for discharging their duties with utmost sincerity during the period.
About the country’s launch terminals, the state minister said Paturia-Daulatdia, Aricha-Nagarbari, Bhola-Lakshmipur and Chandpur launch ghats will be expanded in phases.
He sought cooperation of all to ensure better passenger services in the days to come.
Md Abdus Samad, secretary to the Ministry of Shipping, was also present on the occasion, among others.
