Department of Environment (DoE), Chattogram (metro) in a drive seized two tonnes of polythene from the premises of a factory at port city’s Kalamiya Bazar area yesterday.
Azadur Rahman Mollik, director of DoE, Chattogram, launched the drive in the morning at the factory of Nazir Printing Company.
Azadur said, on information, they raided the factory and seized the polythene, adding that authorities issued a notice to the owner to be present at a hearing, which will be held at DoE office today. They will slap a fine after the hearing.
The government banned production, distribution and marketing of polythene in 2002 in a bid to protect the environment.
