Two-day Robot Olympiad begins at DU
A two-day Bangladesh Robot Olympiad began at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University yesterday.
Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the event, where State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as chief guest.
The Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering of DU and Bangladesh Open Source Network jointly organised the event, said a DU press release.
While addressing the event, the state minister urged students to play an effective role in developing the education, health and agriculture sectors in the country by utilising the knowledge of robotics.
“The government will provide financial support to establish a modern robotics laboratory at the robotics department,” he said.
VC Akhtaruzzaman stressed the importance of scientific inventions and urged youths to be more involved in the field of robotics.
Dr Shamim Ahmed Deowan, chairperson of the robotics department, presided over the inaugural session while Prof Dr Lafifa Jamal, president of Bangladesh Robot Olympiad; Monir Hassan, general secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network; and Redwan Ferdous, chief coordinator of the Olympiad, addressed the programme, among others.
Around 400 students from different schools are participating in the event.
