Two Barishal University students sent to prison
Two students of Barishal University were sent to jail by a local court yesterday, for allegedly circulating obscene videos of their classmates on social media.
Police arrested the duo earlier on Monday, based on a case filed by a classmate with Bandar Police Station under Barishal Metropolitan Police.
Shamsul Islam, investigation officer of the case, confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.
The victim filed the case on Monday, accusing Sadikun Nahar Ami, Selim Raza and several unnamed individuals for circulating the videos.
Police detained Sadikun and Selim from student dormitories of the university on the same day, and interrogated them.
During interrogation, the two confessed to their crime, said police.
Law enforcers produced them before court yesterday, accusing them under the Pornography Control Act.
The court then ordered to send them to jail, said Mostofa Kamal Haydar, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station.
According to the case statement, one of the accused stole a USB memory stick containing some sensitive videos from the victim’s residence on August 14, 2015.
The perpetrators circulated the videos on social media last year, it added.
