Tasvir gets bail in FR Tower fire case
A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to Tasvir Ul Islam, one of the two owners of FR Tower, in connection with the case filed over the fire that ripped through the high-rise building on March 28, killing 26 people.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after his lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji submitted a petition.
The magistrate in his order said Tasvir was sick and charges of negligence for the incident did not lie on him, so he was granted bail in the case, confirmed General Recording Officer (GRO) SI Sheikh Rakibul Hassan.
During yesterday's hearing, Samaji said his client has been suffering from different ailments, and he is an owner of one of the floors of the FR Tower and was not responsible for the fire.
The prosecution argued that the accused was involved in the incident, and that if he secures bail he will tamper with investigation.
On April 8, another Dhaka court rejected bail petitions of two owners of FR Tower and sent them to jail in the case on expiry of their seven-day remand.
Earlier on March 31, SMHI Faruque, the land owner of FR Tower, and Tasvir were placed on seven-day remand each.
The two, along with Liakat Ali Khan alias Mukul, 57, chairman of Rupayan Group -- the builder company, leaders of the building management committee, and some unidentified persons were charged for the death of people due to negligence.
The case was filed with Banani Police Station by Sub-Inspector Milton Dutt.
