Six killed in road accidents
Six people were killed and five others were injured in road accidents across four districts in the last two days, our correspondents and agencies report.
A man was killed and his wife was injured in a road accident at Bondorpasha area under Boalmari upazila in Faridpur around 12pm yesterday.
The deceased is Syed Ainal, 41.
Quoting locals, Md Saifuddin, sub-inspector of Boalmari Police Station said, “The accident took place when a tractor collided head-on with Ainal’s motorbike at Bondorpasha area. The couple was severely injured and locals rushed them to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Ainal dead.”
The body was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police seized the tractor but the driver fled, added the SI.
In Madaripur, a seven-year-old was killed in a road accident on Madaripur-Shariatpur regional road at Mohisarchar area under Sadar upazila around 1:30pm yesterday.
The victim was Sijan Bepari, son of Sohag Bepari of Mohisarchar village. He was a student of a local madrasa.
Quoting locals, Sougatul Alom, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station said, “A loaded truck ran over Sijan while he was crossing the road in front of their house. The boy died on the spot.”
Locals caught the driver and the vehicle soon afterwards and handed over to police, added the OC.
In Sherpur, three people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw at Citholia in Nakla upazila on Sunday evening, reports UNB.
Two of the deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Billal Hossain, 22, and Habibur Rahman, 50, of Geramara village in Jamalpur while the identity of the other victim could not be known.
Police and locals said six people were severely injured when a passenger bus from Sherpur rammed into an auto-rickshaw around 7pm at Citholia.
Locals took the injured to Nakla Upazila Health Complex where Billal succumbed to his injuries. Two others died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) around 10pm.
Three of the injured are being treated at MMCH, police said.
Md Alamgir Shah, officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station, said they are trying to seize the bus and arrest its driver.
In Jashore, a school headmaster was killed and his wife was critically injured after a bus crashed into their motorbike in Ujjolpur Palpara intersection in Jhikorgachha upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Arshad Ali, 50, son of late Ansar Ali of Dighirpar Taltola village. He was the headmaster of Khadapara Adarsha Child Care school in Monirampur upazila.
Mesbahuddin, officer-in-charge of Bakra Police Outpost, said the speeding bus hit the motorcycle when the couple was returning home, leaving Arshad dead on the spot. His wife Najmunnahar was taken to Jashore General Hospital.
Police seized the truck but the driver fled the scene.
