Shahbagh ASI remanded for snatching gold
A Dhaka court yesterday placed two people, including an assistant sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, on a three-day remand each, in connection with a case filed over snatching 125 tola (apprx 1.25kg) gold in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area.
The accused are: Shahbagh Police Station ASI Shahjahan Kabir and Md Alimuddin, proprietor of Asif Jewellers in Mouchak Market.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman passed the order after Mahabubur Rahman, an inspector of Shahbagh Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, appeared before it with a seven-day remand prayer.
The IO in his forwarding report said the accused were directly involved with snatching the gold from two employees of Razi Bullion Store of Tantibazar while they were going to Sadia Jewellers in New Market to sell the gold at around 8:30pm on September 14.
The accused need to be remanded to find out the whereabouts of the other involved in the crime and recover the rest of the gold bars, said the IO.
Md Ali Ashraf, manager of Razi Bullion Store, on September 17 filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station against his employees Al Amin, Shahjahan Kabir, Alimuddin, Md Nazrul Islam and Md Ali.
