Sexual Harassment on Campus: MATS students continue demo for second day
Protesting sexual harassment incidents on campus, students of Bagerhat Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) continued their demonstration for the second day yesterday.
They came up with an eight-point demand, which includes stopping sexual harassment on the campus by firing the school’s staff members responsible for the incidents.
Yesterday, the protesting students vandalised some furniture at the institution’s administrative building, said witnesses.
After the incident, a four-member probe committee was formed to investigate into the students’ allegations.
They resumed their demonstration around 9am yesterday, claiming they will continue until their demands are met. They also had a dispute with the committee head Dr Samir Kanti Paul.
If the issue is not resolved, the students will start a movement for the resignation of the principal, they said.
Dr Md Abdul Rakib, the school’s principal, said action will be taken against the staff as per the committee’s findings and recommendations. It was requested to submit a report within 48 hours, he added.
Their other demands include stopping the appointment of staff as invigilators, and prohibiting male staff from entering the female hostel without principal’s permission.
