Road crashes kill six, injure three
Six people were killed and three others injured in road accidents in five districts in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Gopalganj, a man was killed and three were injured as a pickup and a truck collided head-on on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Charprosondi area of Muksudpur upazila yesterday.
The deceased -- identified as Keramat Matubbar, 64 -- was the pickup driver.
Quoting locals, SI Abul Bashar of Sindiyaghat Police Outpost said the accident took place while the pickup was trying to overtake another vehicle.
The injured were taken to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex, he said.
Police seized both vehicles but the truck driver fled the spot, said the SI.
In Lalmonirhat, a man was killed as a truck hit his motorcycle on Lalmonirhat- Burimari highway in Namuri area of Aditmari upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Sohrab Hossain from Shialkhowa village in the upazila, said Aditmari Police Station OC Saiful Islam.
A man was killed after a vehicle hit his bicycle in the capital’s Wari early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Tatalu Chandra, 23, reports UNB.
Asaduzzaman, sub-inspector of Wari Police Station, said the vehicle crashed into Tatalu’s bicycle in front of Salauddin Specialized Hospital around 12am.
He was first taken by locals to a nearby hospital, and then transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1:30am.
Two workers were killed as a covered van crashed into a three-wheeler on Chandra-Nabinagar highway in Baroipara of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur yesterday, the news agency adds,
The deceased were identified as Nazrul, 38, and Jarzid, 35, workers of a local factory.
Konabari Higway Police Station OC Mojibur Rahman said the accident took place in front of Nandan Park around 7:30am, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Rangamati, motorbike rider Md Suman, 30, was killed as a truck hit his bike on Rangamati-Khagrachhari road in Manikchhari on Monday night.
