Road accidents kill nine
Nine people were killed in road accidents during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Narayanganj, tractor driver Nayeem Mia and his helper Sattar Hossain were killed when the vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch in Rupganj area yesterday, police quoted witnesses as saying.
Mahmudul Hassan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, said the accident happened as the driver lost control over the vehicle.
In Panchagarh, a truck hit a motorbike from behind at Barrister Bazar in Sadar upazila on Friday night, killing two of its riders Manik Hossain and Nayan Islam.
In Bogura, rickshaw-van puller Abdul Hannan died when a truck hit him on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Majhira area yesterday.
In Netrakona, a truck hit a motorbike in Durgapur area on Friday night, killing its rider Romzan Ali on the spot.
In Madaripur, Saleha Begum, 65, was killed as a motorcycle hit her while she was crossing Rajoir-Nayanagar road in Nayanagar area of Rajoir upazila yesterday.
In Chattogram, an unidentified vehicle hit a man leaving him dead in Chhoto Kumira area of Sitakunda upazila yesterday.
Police could not ascertain the identity of the deceased immediately.
In Jhenidah, Junayed Hossain, 6, son of Kalu Hossain, died as a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit him at Ghugrikataltala interjection in Moheshpur area yesterday at around 10:30am. He along with his grandmother was going to his relative’s house, police quoted locals as saying.
Locals took the boy, who was from Baganmath village in Moheshpur upazila, to the local health complex where doctors declared him dead, said police.
