Quality of river dredgers will be ensured: Mahmud
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury yesterday said the quality of new dredgers to be purchased for Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) will be ensured.
He made the assurance when leaders of Shipping and Communication Reporters Forum (SCRF) met him at the Secretariat.
Mahmud said the dredging division under BIWTA is fully free to import new dredgers. Approval for purchasing 35 new dredgers has already been given, and officials of the department concerned have the responsibility to examine the quality of the dredgers after import, he said, expressing hopes that it will be done diligently.
Commenting on the continuation of the river excavation, the state minister said the excavation of river Brahmaputra has already begun under the four rivers digging project, while dredging of the Dharla, Tulai and Punarbhaba rivers will also begin soon.
For dredging, more importance is being given to the Shimulia-Kanthalbari route as it is a very important one, he added.
