Oppression has broken all records: Manna
Criticising the government strongly, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna yesterday alleged that the government's oppression of the people has broken all previous records since the country attained independence.
“No previous government has been as oppressive as the current one. They [government] are the biggest oppressor -- cruel and heartless,” he said at a discussion.
“They committed the highest number of murders, abductions and forced disappearances. We have to be alert to resist them,” he added.
Two political parties -- Sonar Bangla Party and Janadal -- jointly organised the discussion at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on the occasion of their joining the Jukto Front.
Manna, also a leader of Jukto Front, urged all to unite to fight against the oppression and restore democracy in the country through a free, fair and acceptable national election.
“The movement against the current autocratic government is yet to be formed properly because they didn't allow us to do so,” he said.
Terming police “an entirely oppressive force”, Manna demanded its reformation.
About the strategy regarding the upcoming national polls, he said, “We will continue our movement till the end. In the meantime, if the election schedule is declared, we will accept it and carry on with our movement.” He also welcomed Sonar Bangla Party and Janadal to Jukto Front.
