The “National Fisheries Week-2019” will be observed next month. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the week.

The information was revealed yesterday at an inter-ministerial meeting at the conference room of Matsya Bhaban in Dhaka. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru presided over the meeting.

The meeting was also informed that though the prime minister has given her consent to inaugurate the week, date and place of the programmes are not fixed yet.

This year’s slogan for the week is “Machchashe Gorbo Desh… Bangabandhur Bangladesh”.

As per draft schedule, a rally and the fisheries and livestock minister’s press briefing will be held on the first day of the week and the PM will inaugurate the event on the second day.

The same day, a five-day fisheries fair will begin in the capital while three-day district level fish fairs will be held across the country.

President Abdul Hamid, the prime minister and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will release fish fries in ponds at the Bangabhaban, Gono Bhaban and Jatiya Sangsad to mark the National Fisheries Week.
