Missing journalist found in Sunamganj
A journalist of private television channel Mohona TV, who went missing on Saturday evening from Dhaka, was found in Sunamganj Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
FM Mushfiqur Rahman, staff reporter of Mohona TV, was found at Gobindapur area in the upazila, said Abdullah Al Mamun, inspector and acting officer-in-charge of Sunamganj Sadar Police Station.
Mohona TV’s Sunamganj district correspondent Kulendu Shekhar Das said, “After Fajr prayers, some locals saw him in front of a mosque in the area.”
Abdullah Al Mamun said, “After being rescued, he was admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. He could not say who were behind his abduction. His family has been informed and they will be in Sunamganj soon.”
Nasir Uddin, a doctor of the hospital, said, “There are some signs of physical torture on his body and he is also very weak.”
He is having difficulty seeing, as some kind of dust was thrown in his eyes, the doctor added.
Mushfiqur told journalists that he was abducted from Dhaka’s Gulshan on Saturday night. Someone put something in his eyes so he could not see anything.
All he could remember was that he walked till he fainted.
“When I regained consciousness, I found my eyes covered and my hands tied up,” he said.
The abductors intimidated him, beat him up several times, and fed him only a piece of cake and some guavas, Mushfiqur described.
“I don’t remember how I reached Sunamganj. Some people forced me out of a car and asked me to run and I started running. Then I realised I’m in Sunamganj and asked locals to help me,” he said.
Mushfiqur went missing on August 3 while returning home from Gulshan-1 after meeting his uncle. A general diary was filed with Gulshan Police Station in this regard.
He had earlier received a threatening phone call on July 21, and filed a general diary with Pallabi Police Station the next day.
