Man gets 7yrs for distorting PM's photos

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a man to seven years' imprisonment for “distorting” photographs of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The convict is Monir Hossain, of Nagarpur upazila in Tangail. He was sued under the Information and Communication Technology Act in 2013.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after hearing 14 witnesses and going through other documents.

The court also fined him Tk 10,000.

Three others -- Alamgir Hossain, Subrato Shil and Provab Chandra Sarker -- were also accused in the case.

Of them, Alamgir and Subrato were acquitted as the allegations against them could not be proved.

Police dropped Provab's name while pressing charges in 2014.

The case was filed with Saturia Police Station in Manikganj over “distorting” photographs of late president Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh by using mobile phones.
