Loaded pistol stolen from SI's house
A pistol loaded with 16 bullets was stolen from the residence of a sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of police in Mymensingh city.
The break-in happened when the SI, Kamol Kumar Roy, was away at work and the house was empty on Tuesday morning. He lodged a theft case with Kotwali Police Station on Wednesday night.
Citing the case statement, Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mahmudul Islam said the loaded pistol, a gold chain, and Tk 2.1 lakh in cash were stolen from his rented residence in Kalibari area.
SI Kamol went out for his work station on Tuesday morning after locking the house as his wife was staying at her parents' home in Netrakona.
Around 11:45am on that day, one of his relatives informed him of the break-in.
Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of DB, Mymensingh, said they were informed about the incident on Wednesday evening. Kamol kept the money as he was due to go to India for treatment, he said.
The SI was closed to Mymensingh Police Lines yesterday for his alleged negligence in duty, said OC Akanda. “An official cannot keep his arms at home without permission from the authorities concerned.”
A departmental investigation was also launched, and necessary action will be taken against the SI if his negligence is found, he added.
