Kulaura schoolgirl’s stalker confesses to stabbing her
The stalker who stabbed a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Kulaura upazila on Saturday gave confessional statement before a magistrate yesterday.
The accused -- Jewel Ahmed, 19, son of Bokul Mia in the same upazila -- was sent to jail after he made the confession before the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Moulvibazar, said Sanjay Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kulaura Police Station.
Jewel, arrested soon after the incident, in his statement admitted to have stabbed the eighth-grade student on her way back home from school as she refused his repeated proposition of physical relations with him, said Harun Mia, investigation officer of the case.
Locals caught Jewel from the crime scene and handed him over to police after beating him up. Police seized a sharp weapon from the spot.
The injured girl was first taken to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex in an unconscious state before being transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Dr Zakir Hosain, resident medical officer at the health complex, said part of the victim’s right ear was severed and there was a two-inch deep gash in her head.
Talking to The Daily Star, mother of the girl said they had filed a general diary with the police station and sent her daughter to a different school as the accused had been stalking her daughter for months.
