JU students besiege business faculty
Left-leaning students and cultural activists of Jahangirnagar University yesterday besieged the Faculty of Business Studies demanding that the finance and banking department allow a student to take the special examination for a third time.
Over 50 students of “Progressive Student Alliance” and “Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance” stayed in front of the faculty building from 9:00am to 1:00pm, halting academic activities .
Sayema Iqbal, a third-year student of the department, said her academic life has been hampered due to personal problems. “But I want to continue my studies with the next batch but the department is not permitting me as I took special permission twice.” During the blockade, the protesters urged the teachers to let her take the fifth semester final examinations.
Contacted, Assistant Professor Mahfuza Khatun, chairperson of the department, said, “The department came up with a decision that they would take proper steps about the matter. But next time, she would not be allowed to sit any special examination.”
