‘I need to be with my parents’
Abrar Fiyaz, younger brother of murdered Buet student Abrar Fahad, has left Dhaka College for Kushtia Government College. He applied for a transfer certificate (TC) yesterday morning.
“It was a family decision,” said his father Barkatullah. “He did not want to stay in Dhaka after his brother’s death as he is not feeling well,” he added.
Prof Kazi Manjur Kadir, principal of Kushtia Government College, said, “His [Fiyaz] father called and informed me of the matter.” It will take three to four days to complete proceedings such as credit transfer, he added.
The principal said he has informed the matter to Prof Abdul Alim, chairperson of Jashore Board.
Contacted, the chairperson said, “We will complete the formalities within shortest possible time.”
Fiyaz, an HSC student, told The Daily Star over phone, “Abrar used to be my guardian in Dhaka. I don’t want to stay here without him. I need to be with my parents now… I need to be home.” He said he will leave for his hometown soon.
Abrar, a second-year student at Buet, was beaten to death by Bangladesh Chhatra League men at his university dorm on October 7. Later, his father filed a murder case against 19 Buet students, mostly BCL leaders, and several other unnamed accused with Chawkbazar Police Station. A total of 19 people have been arrested over the murder.
