Four killed in road crashes
Four people were killed in separate road crashes over the last two days, report our correspondent and a news agency.
In Mymensingh, a person was killed in a road accident at Balorampur area in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh yesterday afternoon, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
The victim was identified as Abdul Mannan (55).
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Dhobaura Police Station Ali Ahmed Mollah said Mannan was crushed from behind by a battery-run auto-rickshaw after he fell off the road from his rickshaw around 5pm.
Locals rushed to the spot and took him to Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said the OC. On information, police have recovered his body.
Police seized the auto-rickshaw but its driver managed to flee the scene. A case has been lodged in this regard.
In Sylhet, an auto-rickshaw driver was killed after his vehicle collided with a bus at Parua Point in Companiganj upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Motin Mia (40), of Burideao village in the upazila.
The accident took place on the Sylhet-Bholaganj Highway around 6am. The collision left Motin critically injured, said Sajal Kumar Kanu, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station.
Later, he was taken to Companiganj Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
After the accident, locals and other auto-rickshaw drivers blocked the Sylhet-Bholaganj Highway, halting vehicular movement for a while.
The blockade was withdrawn after Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sumon Acharya promised to take necessary steps in this connection.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
In Munshiganj, two members of a family were killed as a sand-laden truck hit a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Keyotkhiya area of Sreenagar upazila, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Tuhin Shikdar (40) and his brother-in-law Badsha Hossain Mithu (50).
Md Abdul Based, OC of Hasara Highway Police Outpost said that the collision between the two vehicles occurred when the truck was taking a U-turn. It left Tuhin and Badsha critically injuring.
He was rushed to a local hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead, said the OC.
Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee, he said.
