Fire service week begins today
Fire Service and Civil Defence week will begin across the country today, aimed at creating awareness to prevent fire incidents and others disasters.
The fire department has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the week.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will formally inaugurate the weeklong events at Fire Service and Civil Defence Multipurpose Complex at Purbachal in Narayanganj at 9am.
A total of 411 fire stations across the country will simultaneously observe the week from November 6 to 12.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday issued separate messages on the occasion.
The president in his message said the role of fire service is crucial for ensuring security and safety of people during any manmade disaster. Members of the fire service stand by people, putting their lives at risk during different disasters, he added.
Noting that the rate and prevalence of accident is increasing gradually due to industrialisation and urbanisation, the president underscored the need for supplying modern equipment to the fire service members and providing them with advanced training.
The PM in her message said the present government has strengthened its effort to increase overall capacity of the fire service for a safer Bangladesh.
The government has set up at least one fire station at every upazila across the country and provided an ambulance to each fire station for transporting injured people to a hospital during an accident, she added.
Apart from increasing services and capacity, other facilities have also been increased for the institution, the premier said.
