Defamation case filed against Shomi Kaiser

A Dhaka court today directed officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to submit by June 16 a probe report into the case filed against actress Shomi Kaiser.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order after Mia Md Nuzhatul Hachan, editor of an online news portal named studentjournalbd.com, filed a defamation case against the actress with the court today.
The case was filed for “defaming” journalists by searching them after the actress lost her two smartphones at a programme at Jatiya Press Club on April 24.
According to media reports, after giving a speech at an inaugural ceremony of a website, Shomi Kaiser, president of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), noticed that her phones were lost.
Right after that incident, the security guards locked the gates and searched all the journalists and guests present there.
Around 50 journalists and more than one hundred guests were stuck there for more than half an hour following the incident.
Later, it was revealed from the footage recorded by journalists that the phones were stolen by a worker who brought a cake for the ceremony.
