Decision to send DU teacher on forced leave illegal: HC
The High Court today declared illegal the Dhaka University syndicate’s decision to send its Assistant Professor Rushd Faridi on forced leave.
The court also ordered the DU authorities to allow Dr RushdFaridi join his office at its Economics Department.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam came up with the verdict following a writ petition filed by Rushd Faridi challenging the legality of DU syndicate’s decision to send him to forced leave.
Petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua told The Daily Star that DU syndicate send RushdFaridi to forced leave on July 12, 2017 for allegedly misbehaving with his colleagues without issuing any show cause notice to him.
The DU syndicate has no authority to send any teacher to leave, he said, adding that only the VC of the university can send any teacher to leave only for three months.
RushdFaridi on July 20, 2017 filed the writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of DU syndicate’s decision to send him to forced leave.
On July 24 the same year, the HC issued a rule questioning the legality of the syndicate’s decision.
Advocate Seemontee Ahmed appeared for the DU.
