Customs official remanded again in bribery case
A court in Chattogram yesterday placed a customs official of Chattogram Customs House on a one-day remand in a case filed with Bandar Police Station. He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) from his office on January 10 over an allegation of bribery.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Safi Uddin passed the order against Nazim Uddin Ahmed after he was produced before the court with a three-day remand prayer, said Advocate Mahmudul Haque, ACC's public prosecutor.
On January 19, he was remanded for two days and produced before a court on Monday, on completion of the first remand.
The anti corruption watchdog arrested Nazim Uddin, a revenue officer, after receiving a tip on ACC hotline 106. He was accused of demanding bribe. ACC found Tk 6 lakh in cash stashed in his office. ACC's Deputy Director SMM Akhter Hamid Bhuiyan is investigating the case.
