Clinker-laden lighter vessel capsizes

A lighter vessel carrying 1,500 tonnes of cement clinker capsized near Hatiya channel after colliding with another vessel yesterday.

All 13 crew of the vessel, MV Tasneha-5, were rescued by a trawler.

After loading imported cement clinkers from a mother vessel at outer anchorage of Chattogram port, Tanesha was heading for Narayanganj, said Md Salim, deputy director (DD) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.

The accident occurred when it collided with MV Nilgiri, heading from the same direction, and crack developed at the bottom of Tasneha-5. iIts master and managed to take it around half a kilometre away from the channel when it sank.
