Cabinet secy dismisses TIB report
The cabinet secretary yesterday dismissed a Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) report that claimed senior government officials are being promoted on the basis of political consideration.
He was briefing journalists after a cabinet meeting at the secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“I have not yet seen the TIB report. Like you (journalists), I only know what came in the news. But, the matter is not exactly the same as stated by TIB in a wholesale manner,” said Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
About the TIB claim that wealth reports were not submitted by government officials every five years, he said, “We have submitted the reports. It is a rule for government officials to submit wealth reports every five years.”
Replying to a question, Alam said the number of contractual appointments is very few at this moment.
The cabinet also congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh has become the fastest GDP growth-achieving country among 45 countries in the Asia-Pacific, the cabinet secretary said.
The meeting also gave final approval to the draft of the Bangladesh Flag Vessel (Protection) Act, 2019; Bangladesh Krira Shikkhya Protishthan Ain, 2019; and International Mother Language Medal Policy, 2019),” he said.
The cabinet was also informed of the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Japan from May 28 to May 30, and to Saudi Arabia from May 31 to June 3, Shafiul added.
