Bus Driver Beaten to Death: Counter Terrorism unit starts probe
Counter Terrorism unit (CTU) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has begun investigating the murder of Jalaluddin, a bus driver of Shyamoli Paribahan, who was beaten to death on Tuesday by a group posing as detective branch officials.
Md Shahidullah, deputy commissioner of the unit, told The Daily Star that CTU took over the charge of investigating the murder after a case was filed with Karnaphuli Police Station by the victim’s brother on Wednesday.
“Our officials are collecting evidence from the spot and recorded accounts of eye-witnesses. We hope to arrest the culprits very soon,” said the deputy commissioner.
Jalaluddin was beaten to death by a group of people who claimed to be detectives at a place between Shantir Hat and Shikalbaha areas on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Patiya upazila.
Jalal’s brother Jewel Hossain filed a case and transport workers enforced an 18-hour strike in Chattogram and Rangpur yesterday.
