‘Bomb-like object’ in Sylhet a grinding machine: army
The bomb-like object found at Chowhatta in Sylhet city is a grinding machine, an official of Bangladesh army confirmed.
Members of Bangladesh Army's Bomb Disposal and Destruction Unit, of 17 Infantry Division, inspected the spot and confirmed the object was not a bomb, 21 hours after it was spotted, Lt Col Rahat of the division told journalists.
Police detected the object tied up to a motorcycle of a traffic surgeon of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) yesterday afternoon around 6:30pm and cordoned off the area since 7:00pm.
Later a team of Rapid Action Battalion reached the spot, and the disposal was further delayed till the team of Bangladesh Army reached around 2:00pm today.
Lt Col Rahat told journalists, "The team comprising of bomb experts -- Lt Col Khaled, Captain Noor, Captain Galib and others inspected the object, detached it and confirmed that the thing is a grinding machine. We then handed it over to police."
Azbahar Ali Sheikh, deputy commissioner (North) of SMP, said, "Someone unintentionally put the machine there, or someone intentionally did that to create panic."
"We already started our investigation on it and will surely provide more details in coming days," he said.
