BNP gained nothing by joining JS: Manna
Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna yesterday said BNP has gained nothing by joining parliament where MPs are always busy flattering the Prime Minister.
“Parliament members start praising the leader (Hasina) the moment they take the floor. The way they talk in the House sounds like only Sheikh Hasina deserves admiration. The person (PM) who is admired also smiles. We’re watching such circus and caricatures regularly,” he said.
Speaking at a discussion, the Nagorik Oikya chief also said those who think of carrying out a struggle in parliament instead of on the streets, are actually not fit for any movement.
Shaheed Zia Smrity Parishad, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club.
Manna, also a top leader of Jatiya Oikyafront, said their alliance MPs who joined parliament as part of their movement only get two minutes to speak up. “One minute later they get their microphone switched off. It’s not possible to carry out the movement this way.”
He said a street movement is now a must to “restore” democracy and free the nation from the suffocating situation. “It takes 10-30 years in different countries to restore democracy. The sooner we can take to the streets the sooner democracy will be restored.”
Manna also urged alliance partners to reorganise their parties for waging a strong movement.
