124 structures, including house of ACC lawyer's family, demolished
Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajol failed to save a house, which he says belonged to his father-in-law, from demolition during the ongoing eviction drive to free the Buriganga River from encroachment.
The three-storey building, constructed at Jhauchar in Dhaka's Kamrangirchar, was among 124 structures that were bulldozed in the drive by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) yesterday.
“It was built illegally, without having the plan approved by Rajuk as well as clearance from BIWTA,” said AKM Arif Uddin, a joint director of BIWTA, who led the drive.
“Mosharraf Hossain Kajol came during the demolition, but could not show any valid document,” he added.
Kajol, however, told The Daily Star that his father-in-law bought the property in 1961 and it was in records of CS, RS City records.
“It's not illegal. We have all necessary documents, but they (BIWTA) have demolished the building without giving any notice and checking papers,” Kajol claimed.
He said they will go to court against the demolition as it was “an injustice against the family”.
Kajol said though BIWTA demolished their building, the adjacent one remained intact.
