9 get life-term for Chhatra Dal leader murder

A Khulna court yesterday sentenced nine people to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over murder of Kabir Hassan Palash, vice president of Jessore district unit of Chhatra Dal, on December 9, 2013.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each and upon failure to pay the amount, the sentence will be extended for another year.

Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge MA Rab Hawladar delivered the verdict in presence of six accused. Two of the 11 accused -- Masud Rana and Razzak Fakir -- were acquitted.

The nine are Toriqul Islam, Prince, Zahidul Islam, Robiul Sheikh, Tutul Gazi, Sajal, Faisal Gazi, Shahidul Islam Khan and another Shahidul Islam, said Public Prosecutor Enamul Hoque. All are from Jashore town.

According to the case statement, Palash was hanging out with friends at a tea stall in Eidgah area when miscreants, on two motorbikes, shot him.
