77 detained in Rajshahi
Police have detained 77 persons in special drives in Rajshahi. The detainees include three suspected members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir, law enforcers claimed.
Police raided a mango orchard in Poba upazila where Jamaat activists were holding a clandestine meeting, said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Golam Ruhul Kuddus.
The three suspected Jamaat-Shibir activists were detained but others escaped, he said. Eighteen motorcycles were seized from the spot.
Kuddus also said they detained 41 persons from the city, 16 of whom were wanted in various cases.
Meanwhile, district police detained 36 others, said Additional Superintendent of Police Iftekhar Alam, adding that 24 of them were wanted in various cases.
The detainees would be produced before courts, police said.
