6 more vessels for BSC fleet approved
The government has approved the addition of six more vessels to the fleet of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), said Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan yesterday.
He was addressing the 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BSC at Shaheed Mohammad Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium in Chattrogram port.
“The vessels would be added after importing six ocean-going ships from China by 2019,” he added.
The minister said the government has planned to purchase various sizes and types of water-vessels for transportation of fuel oil, coal and LNG, to develop the power sector.
“The ships will carry the national flag to different ports of the world. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the development of BSC,” said the minister.
In the AGM, the board of directors also approved six percent cash dividend for shareholders. Secretary of the shipping ministry Abdus Samad and BSC Managing Director Yahya Syed were present, among others.
