30 shanties gutted as fire breaks out at Kamalapur slum

At least 30 shanties were gutted in a fire that broke out at a slum in Dhaka's Kamalapur area early today.

The fire originated at TT Para slum around 2:00am, said Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

On information, 13 fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after around one and a half hours of frantic effort, she said.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately. The extent of damage could be ascertained after investigation, she added.

No casualties were reported.
