10 killed in road accidents
Ten people were killed in separate road accidents across the country in the last two days while 11 were injured, report our correspondents and a news agency.
A couple was killed in Dutiyarpur on Barura Lalmai road yesterday evening, when a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, reports our Cumilla correspondent. The deceased were identified as Abdur Rashid (60) and his wife Mosammot Begum (45).
Ziauddin, in-charge of Lalmai Highway Police Outpost, said, “Rashid and his wife were returning home from Cumilla, when the speeding truck hit it.”
Both husband and wife died on the spot, while the auto-rickshaw driver was injured, Ziauddin said, adding that they seized the truck but its driver fled.
Two people were killed and seven were injured in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Wednesday night. The deceased are Rabiul Sardar (35) and Shakil Gomosta (20), reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The accident occurred when a Barishal-bound microbus collided with a Dhaka-bound bus, said Md Wahidujjaman, officer-in-charge of Shibchar Highway Police Station, quoting locals. The microbus was being driven on the wrong-side, he said.
Nine passengers of the microbus were injured, and rushed to a local hospital where on-duty doctors declared Rabiul and Shakil dead, he added.In Dinajpur, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a speeding motorbike at Parbatipur upazila yesterday morning, reports our Dinajpur correspondent. The deceased was identified as Md Monsur Ali (55), Parbatipur upazila police said. Police detained the biker, Siam Babu (21).
Meanwhile in Sunamganj, a Chhatra League leader and a female pillion passenger were killed when their motorbike collided with a pick-up truck at Borokapon point area on Sunamganj-Sylhet highway on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Nirmol Deb, in-charge of Jaua Bazar police outpost, confirmed the incident. Identity of the passenger could not be known.
In Chattogram, three people were killed and three others were injured in separate accidents on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
A woman was killed and her seven-year-old child was injured when a covered-van hit them at Fakirhat in Sitakunda upazila, said Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam of Baro Aulia Highway Police Camp. The child was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Also in Sitakunda, two people were killed and two others injured when a truck hit a private car at Kumira in the upazila. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Abdullah and Mezbah Uddin.
