Ex-constable gets life-term for killing wife
A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a former police constable to life term imprisonment for killing his wife 19 years ago in Jatia village under Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 handed down the sentence in presence of the convict Rafiqul Islam.
The court acquitted four others as the charges brought against them were not proved.
According to the case document, Rafiqul killed his wife Rehana Akter Bokul following an altercation over a piece of land on May 6, 1997.
Later Rafiq who was posted at Dhaka's Rajarbagh Police Lines claimed that Rehana had committed suicide.
Following the incident, Rehana's mother Sobura Khatun filed a case with Bhaluka Police Station accusing Rafiq, his brother, sister and uncle.
