Dhaka to Comilla in an hour
People will be able to travel between Dhaka and Comilla within an hour after implementation of the express railway service, Railways Minister Mujibul Haque told parliament yesterday.
In reply to lawmakers' queries, he said the distance between the Dhaka-Chittagong rail route will be decreased by 90km from the existing 321km after completion of the Dhaka-Chittagong express railway route.
“The request for a proposal to implement the service via Comilla [through Daudkandi upazila] is under process… The detailed design will be completed by 2019. An investment project will be undertaken on its basis,” he said in a scripted answer.
In reply to another query, the minister informed the House that the government is planning to build a circular rail network around the capital to ease the pressure on the city roads.
A feasibility study in this regard has been approved by the Planning Commission on December 27, 2017. An initiative for appointing a consultant has also been taken, he said.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Railway is implementing 12 projects under the first Indian Line of Credit (LoC), according to an official release issued yesterday, reports BSS.
Three other projects will be implemented under the second LoC of Indian soft loan while two more projects under the third LoC.
An evaluation meeting on the progress of the projects was held at the Railway Bhaban yesterday, the release said. The railways minister chaired the meeting, attended by Prime Minister's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Moshiur Rahman, among others.
